Darkseid
Darkseid, whose real name is Uxas, is a
supervillain appearing in American comic
books published by DC Comics. The
character was created by writer-artist Jack
Kirby and debuted in Superman’s Pal
Jimmy Olsen #134 in December 1970.
Darkseid is depicted as a New God and
the tyrannical ruler of the planet
Apokolips. His ultimate goal is to find and
gain control over the Anti-Life Equation to
enslave the multiverse by eliminating all
hope and free will in sentient beings. He is
regarded as one of the most powerful
beings in the DC Universe, serving as one
of Superman’s greatest adversaries and
the archenemy of the Justice League.
Darkseid is known for his superhuman
strength, speed, stamina, durability, and
reflexes. He also possesses immortality,
invulnerability, and is a skilled hand-to-
hand combatant. One of Darkseid’s most
notable powers is the Omega Effect,
which allows him to shoot Omega Beams
from his eyes. These beams are capable
of erasing living objects and organisms
from existence or resurrecting them,
depending on Darkseid’s will.
Despite his villainous nature, Darkseid is a
complex character with a rich backstory.
He was originally Prince Uxas, the son of
King Yuga Khan and Queen Heggra, and
the second in line to the throne of
Apokolips. He seized control over the
planet from his older brother, Drax, and
claimed the fabled Omega Force for
himself.
Darkseid’s character has had a large
influence in pop culture and other comics.
He has been adapted in various media
incarnations, including animation and
video games. His character is credited as
the inspiration for Marvel Comics’ high-
profile villain Thanos.
