Mortal Kombat
The Mortal Kombat Tournament: Rules and Structure
The Mortal Kombat tournament is an ancient contest held across different realms
in the Mortal Kombat universe.
The tournament was created by the Elder Gods as a way to maintain balance and
prevent the realms from being conquered by the powerful realm of Outworld.
Here are the key rules and stipulations of the tournament:
Competing Realms: Every generation, competing realms (such as Earthrealm,
Outworld, Edenia, etc.) send their best fighters into a single-elimination martial arts
tournament.
Invoking Mortal Kombat: Once Mortal Kombat is declared, it cannot be refused
by either party. The tournament must proceed.
Realm Survival: There are two critical stipulations for each realm’s warriors:
Grand Champion Survival: If the defending Grand Champion outlasts the
opposing realm’s warriors in the first tournament and continues winning until the last
tournament, the defending realm can be saved.
Ten Straight Victories: If an opposing realm’s Grand Champion or another
representative can garner ten consecutive victories, they earn the right to enter and
merge the realm. This is the only permissible way for one realm to invade and
conquer another.
Mortal Kombat Grand Champion: The victor of Mortal Kombat, from the first
tournament continuously until the tenth, is officially crowned the Mortal Kombat
Grand Champion. The reward includes stunted aging and immortality.
No Premature Attacks: The defending and opposing realm’s fighters cannot
attack each other until the tournament begins. Any violation of these rules is
considered an act of treason against the realms and the Elder Gods themselves.
Special Powers Allowed: Warriors’ special powers can be used in the
tournament.
Notable Mortal Kombat Tournaments
10,000+ BMK: The first ten consecutive Mortal Kombat tournaments were held in
Edenia, where their warriors inevitably lost to Outworld, allowing Emperor Shao
Kahn to merge the two realms.
1000+ BMK - 0 BMK: The currently known Mortal Kombat tournament in
Earthrealm when sorcerer Shang Tsung, under Shao Kahn’s orders, took control of
the tournament invoked by the Shaolin in a bid to upset the Furies and invade Earth.
The Mortal Kombat Lore
The Mortal Kombat universe is a complex tapestry of realms, gods, warriors, and
mystical forces.
The Elder Gods created the realms and the tournament to prevent the rebirth of
the ancient deity known as the One Being.
Each realm has its unique characteristics, inhabitants, and challenges.
The storylines involve epic battles, personal vendettas, and the fate of entire
realms hanging in the balance.
Remember, Mortal Kombat isn’t just about brutal fights; it’s a saga of cosmic
proportions, where martial arts and magic collide in a struggle for survival and
dominance across the realms1[1]24.
